Доповідач: Marek Golasiński (University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Poland) Назва доповіді: On Gottlieb groups and their applications Анотація: Abstract: Gottlieb groups Gk(X) with k ≥ 1 of a pointed space X have been defined by D. Gottlieb, (Amer. J. of Math. 91 (1969)). For a wide class of spaces, Gk(X) is the subgroup of the k-th homotopy group πk(X) containing all elements which can be represented by a map f: Sk → X such that f ∨ idX : Sk ∨ X → X extends (up to homotopy) to a map F: Sk × X → X. We aim to present some applications of Gottlieb groups (e.g., to the problem of sec- tioning fibrations) and computations for X = Sn, the n-th sphere or X = KPn, the n-th projective space with K = R, C, the fields of reals or complex numbers and the skew R-algebra of quaternions H. Доповідач: Vladimir Chernov (Dartmouth College, USA) Назва доповіді: Lie and Poisson Brackets on Loops, their generalizations and applications Анотація: Goldman and Turaev introduced a bialgebra structure on the space of loops on a surface. it was later generalized to the String Algebra by Chas and Sullivan. The results of Goldman and Chas show that they can be frequently used to compute the minimal number of intersection and self intersection points of loops on the surface. We show that similar Andersen-Mattes-Reshetikhin Poisson Algebra always solves this problem and generalize the algebra to the Graded Poisson Algebra on the space of garlands glued out of arbitrary manifolds. This algebra can be used to define linking numbers for nonzero homologous linked submanifolds. These linking numbers can be used to study causality in spacetimes. The talk is based on the works of the author and joint works with Cahn and with Rudyak. Лінк для підключення: https://bbb.imath.kiev.ua/b/ser-rk7-dqd-hon Час: 17:00

  • 2021-06-24 - Vladimir Chernov - Linking: causality, black holes, and cosmic censorship of smooth structures
Доповідач: Vladimir Chernov (Dartmouth College, USA) Назва доповіді: Linking: causality, black holes, and cosmic censorship of smooth structures Анотація: Two events in a spacetime are called causally related if the information can get from one event point to the other. In the joint works with Stefan Nemirovski we established that Legendrian linking of the spheres of light rays passing through the two points completely determines causality for spacetimes of dimensions greater or equal than 4. For the spaces times of dimension 3 causal structure is completely determined by topological linking. These results settle the conjectures of Robert Low and of Jose Natario and Paul Todd. They also give an answer to the problem on the Vladimir Arnold problem list communicated by Roger Penrose. We will discuss these results and some ideas about how to apply the link theory to the study of black holes. If time permits we will explain why exotic smooth structures are likely not useful in general relativity, since the natural physical assumption impose strong censorship (similar in spirit to the one of Penrose's cosmic censorship conjecture) on the class of possible smooth structures on a spacetime. The resulting smooth structure is unique and natural. Лінк для підключення: https://bbb.imath.kiev.ua/b/ser-rk7-dqd-hon Час: 17:00
