Українське та Київське математичні товариства рішуче засуджують безглузду війну розв’язану Росією проти України. У цій війні вже загинуло і було поранено багато ні в чому неповинних людей. Цього не повинно було статись. Українські математики отримують величезну кількість листів підтримки з усіх кінців світу, і, зокрема, від російських математиків, які пишуть, що їм надзвичайно соромно за свою країну та її керівництво.
В якості підтримки України закликаємо всю світову наукову математичну спільноту до бойкоту Міжнародного конгресу математиків (ICM), проведення якого заплановане на липень 2022 року в Санкт-Петербурзі.
Міжнародний конгрес математиків - це вкрай важлива подія, метою якої є не лише обмін математичними знаннями. Зокрема, він також служить для налагоджування комунікацій та взаємозв’язків між математиками інших країн, та є проявом довіри і визнання країни, яка приймає конгрес, перед усім світом. Тому проведення конгресу в Росії, яка так віроломно поводить себе по відношенню до нашої країни, є недопустимим і порушує не лише політичні домовленості, а й базові людські принципи.
Address of the Ukrainian and Kyiv Mathematical Societies to the scientific community
The Ukrainian and Kyiv Mathematical Societies strongly condemn the senseless war waged by Russia against Ukraine. Many innocent people have already died and been wounded in this war. That should not have happened. Ukrainian mathematicians receive a huge number of letters of support from all over the world, and in particular from Russian mathematicians, who write that they are extremely ashamed of their country and its leadership. In support of Ukraine, we call on the entire world scientific and mathematical community to boycott the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM), which is scheduled for July 2022 in St. Petersburg.
The International Congress of Mathematicians is an extremely important event, the purpose of which is not only the exchange of mathematical knowledge. In particular, it also serves to establish communication and relationships between mathematicians of other countries, and is a manifestation of trust and recognition of the host country to the world. That is why holding a congress in Russia, which is behaving so treacherously towards our country, is inadmissible and violates not only political agreements but even basic human principles.
